Trainee Site Manager
Time in role:
BSc Construction Management (completion 2018)
I first worked at Pochin’s in 2012 on an organised work experience placement whilst I was at High School. I really enjoyed the time I spent working with the company, and took the opportunity to join the in-house Trainee Scheme that was offered to me when I completed A Levels at College. I then spent the next two years working on a variety of high value projects assisting the site team, whilst undertaking a fully funded BSc Construction Management degree for one day a week at the University of Derby, which I am due to complete in the May 2018.
I am currently taking the lead for Design and BIM management across three contracts in the North West.
What made you want to join the construction industry?
I’ve always had an interest in construction from an early age, and following on from work experience at Pochin’s in 2012 , it enabled me to decide that Site Management was the role for me. I have since enjoyed the achievement of completing a project and then being able to show it off to friends and family by walking past and saying: “I helped to build that!”
Where do you think we will see you in five years’ time?
Once I have completed my degree in May 2018, I plan to register for Chartered membership status with the CIOB, which will allow me to continually develop my knowledge of various aspects of the construction industry. This will also help me achieve my aim of progressing to be a Project Manager, taking on the responsibility for my very own project.
